• Dental plans have a fixed dollar amount per year that they will pay and generally have a wait period before they will cover larger services.

• Vision Plans generally pay for an annual eye exam and give a fixed dollar amount per year (~$ 150) toward glasses and contacts. 

Before you select a plan please read the fine print so you know what is covered and your wait periods. Also, it would be a good idea to confirm your dental provider is in-network.

Another facinating lesson I learned. They also only pay an amount that is considered by the insurance company as "usual and customary". This means if the dentist charges $ 200 for something the insurance company believes should cost $ 100 they will pay the agreed percentage of what they believe it should cost or "usual and customary" amount.
